Off-Duty Providence Detective Arrested at Rhode Island Casino
An off-duty Providence Police detective was arrested by Lincoln Police officers after allegedly threatening patrons at Bally's Twin River Casino in Rhode Island. The incident, captured on bodycam footage, shows the confrontation that led to the 27-year veteran's arrest.
Casino security had permanently banned the detective from the property following reports that he had threatened other patrons. However, the detective refused to leave the premises quietly, prompting casino staff to contact local law enforcement for assistance.
Lincoln Police officers responded to the scene and encountered the detective in the casino's parking lot. Bodycam footage shows a tense confrontation between the off-duty detective and the responding officers. Despite attempts to resolve the situation peacefully, the encounter escalated and ultimately resulted in the detective being placed in handcuffs.
The footage was obtained through a public records request under the Rhode Island Access to Public Records Act. The detective's behavior during the incident drew criticism, with one officer heard telling him he was "a disgrace to that badge" during the confrontation.
The Providence Police Department has not yet released a statement regarding the incident or any potential disciplinary action against the detective. The case remains under investigation by Lincoln Police.
