Repeat Shoplifter Caught Swapping Barcodes at Target
A woman was arrested at a Target store in Palm Coast, Florida after loss prevention officers caught her switching barcodes on merchandise to pay significantly reduced prices. The incident occurred when the suspect attempted to purchase approximately $500 worth of items at a self-checkout station.
According to the bodycam footage, the woman's payment card was initially declined for the full purchase amount. She then allegedly switched price tags on the merchandise, allowing her to pay only a fraction of the actual retail cost using cash. Loss prevention personnel observed the barcode switching and contacted law enforcement.
The case became more complicated when officers discovered the woman was already known to Target staff from previous shoplifting incidents at the same location. A warrant check revealed she had an outstanding arrest warrant for retail theft from a separate case, adding to the current charges.
Flagler County authorities responded to the scene and took the suspect into custody. The bodycam footage shows the arrest process and interaction between officers, loss prevention staff, and the alleged shoplifter. Target's loss prevention team had been monitoring the situation and provided evidence of the barcode manipulation to responding officers.
The woman now faces charges related to the current shoplifting incident in addition to the outstanding warrant for retail theft from the previous case.
