Anthony Romine, a 29-year-old inmate from Flagler County Sheriff's Office, was recaptured by a K-9 unit on Saturday, July 27, after escaping from AdventHealth Palm Coast during medical treatment.
Romine fled on foot from the hospital on Saturday morning, prompting an extensive seven-hour search by law enforcement. The Flagler County Sheriff's Office deployed multiple resources to locate the escaped inmate throughout the day.
A K-9 patrol team successfully tracked Romine to a wooded area near the Amoco gas station at the Interstate 95 and State Road 100 interchange in Palm Coast. The police dog located and apprehended the suspect, ending the manhunt that had lasted most of the day.
Bodycam footage from the incident shows the moment the K-9 unit made contact with Romine in the dense woods. The suspect was hiding among the trees when the trained police dog successfully tracked his scent to his location.
Following his capture, Romine was transported back to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility where he remains in custody. The successful operation demonstrated the effectiveness of K-9 units in tracking and apprehending fleeing suspects in challenging terrain.
Romine now faces additional charges related to his escape from custody while receiving medical treatment at the Palm Coast hospital.
