Driver Leads Deputy on Chase to Planet Fitness Parking Lot
A 20-year-old driver led a deputy on a pursuit for over a mile before stopping in a Planet Fitness parking lot, where he was arrested after resisting commands and fighting with law enforcement.
The incident began when a deputy ran the vehicle's plates and discovered the registered owner had no valid driver's license. Instead of stopping immediately, the driver continued for more than a mile, passing multiple opportunities to pull over safely before finally turning into the gym's parking lot.
When the deputy approached with his weapon drawn, the young man exited his vehicle and began recording on his phone rather than complying with verbal commands. Body camera footage shows the deputy repeatedly ordering the driver to comply before taking him to the ground when he refused to follow instructions.
During the physical struggle, the driver can be heard shouting claims of brutality while resisting arrest. Officers deployed a taser to gain control of the situation. After being restrained, the driver asked the deputy about the severity of his legal troubles.
The deputy explained that the situation could have been resolved with a simple traffic citation if the driver had initially cooperated by stopping his vehicle. The driver's response indicated he had planned to work out at the gym, stating he thought he was going to lift weights.
The driver faces multiple charges including failure to obey a law enforcement officer, driving while license suspended, resisting arrest with violence, and battery on a law enforcement officer. Authorities seized both his vehicle and mobile phone as part of the investigation.
